Microsoft acquires GitHub for $7.5 billion in shares in a deal that is expected to be final before 2018 ends

GitHub is a repository for many developers. Companies and developers use GitHub to host projects they are developing.
Microsoft once upon of time had a GitHub competitor called CodePlex. CodePlex was discontinued back in December 2017. It feels like Microsoft is seeking the trust of developers going forward.
I wonder how companies like Google and Apple who use GitHub feel about Microsoft taking ownership of this platform?
