Disney’s CEO Bob Igor has announced that the company will begin cutting back on the amount of Star Wars and Marvel content that it produces.
“You pull back not just to focus, but also as part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make, and making less,” – Bob Igor, Disney CEO
The cutbacks will affect both the streaming service Disney+ and the theatrical releases. On Disney+, there will be fewer new Star Wars and Marvel shows, and the ones that do get made will have smaller budgets. On the big screen, there will be fewer Star Wars and Marvel movies, and the ones that do get made will be more focused on the core franchises.
This is not good news for Marvel and Star Wars fans. On the flip side, it sounds like Disney will focus on making a better show or movie over just producing content because it’s on a schedule. I foresee better quality Marvel and Star Wars content in the future.
