Can We give Joel Embiid Rookie of the Year Now?

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers is head and shoulders playing better than any rookie in the NBA right now. It’s not his fault but this year’s rookie class is lackluster, to say the least. Joel Embiid is averaging close to 20 points a game, without even playing 30 minutes a game. Embiid has a profound defensive impact on the game much more than what his over 2 blocks a game tell us.
The upside is super high for Embiid. I even hope he gets a spot on the 2017 NBA all-star roster. I can’t wait until they announce Ben Simmons return because I plan to lift my ban and actually attend a 76ers game.
Let’s just get the trophy embossed now and figure out a day towards the end of the season to present Embiid with the trophy. Screw the conventional way of doing this and let’s look at this as a special situation.
