Uber Technologies has taken its biggest step yet toward becoming a one-stop “super app” for travel. The ride-hailing giant announced a major new partnership with Expedia Group that lets U.S. users book hotel stays directly inside the Uber app. The feature, unveiled at Uber’s annual GO-GET product event, gives riders access to more than 700,000 hotel properties worldwide through Expedia’s vast inventory. Vacation rentals from Expedia-owned Vrbo will join the platform later this year.
Rewards for Uber One Members
Uber One subscribers, now numbering nearly 50 million, stand to benefit the most. They will earn 10% back in Uber One credits on every hotel booking and receive at least 20% off a rotating selection of more than 10,000 hotels globally. The credits can be used for future rides, deliveries, or other Uber services.
The partnership is two-way. Starting in June 2026, Uber rides will be integrated directly into the Expedia app. Travelers who book hotels through Expedia will receive push notifications before check-in, offering discounted Uber rides for their entire trip.
Seamless Travel, Fewer Apps
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who served as Expedia’s CEO for 12 years before joining Uber in 2017, framed the move as a solution to “cognitive overload.”
“Uber is becoming an app for everything, helping people go, get, and now travel all in one place, we’re all living through a moment of real cognitive overload: too many apps, too many decisions, too much noise. At the end of the day, our job is to help people reclaim their time.” – Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO
Expedia Group CEO Ariane Gorin echoed the sentiment:
“Travel should feel effortless, and this partnership gets us one step closer to offering a seamless traveler experience. Together, we’re helping travelers spend less time planning and more time enjoying the journey.” – Ariane Gorin, Expedia Group CEO
What This Means For Everyday Travelers
For everyday users, the change is simple: open the Uber app, search for hotels alongside your ride or food order, and book in one place. No need to switch to a separate travel app. Early feedback highlights the convenience and the generous Uber One perks as strong incentives to book accommodations through Uber rather than traditional online travel agencies.
Industry watchers see the move as another milestone in Uber’s long-term ambition to evolve beyond rides into a full lifestyle platform, competing not just with Lyft or DoorDash, but with Booking.com, Airbnb, and even broader “super apps” like WeChat.
What’s Next
The initial U.S. rollout is already live, with international expansion planned. Vrbo vacation rentals are expected before the end of 2026. Uber also announced several other travel-focused features at the same event, including “Travel Mode” with local recommendations, OpenTable reservations, and hotel delivery options.
For millions of travelers, the message is clear: your next trip just got a little simpler, and a little cheaper, all from the same app you already use to call a ride.
