Bill O’Brien Explains Hopkins Trade

Head coach of the Texans Bill O’Brien has been under high scrutiny since he traded DeAndre Hopkins

“DeAndre Hopkins was a great football player here. He made so many plays for us. We love DeAndre Hopkins. But he had three years left on his deal and he wanted a raise. And we weren’t going to be able to go in that direction. We felt like we had a great offer from Arizona that involved picks. That involved an excellent three-down running back who is hungry and humble and just can’t wait to get started. David Johnson is going to be a great addition to our football team.” – Bill O’Brien

Hopkins along with a 4th round draft pick was traded for running back David Johnson, a 2020 2nd round pick and a 2021 4th round pick.

I actually understand trading Hopkins if you had no intention of paying more money with 3 years left on his contract. I just don’t think the Texans got enough in the trade deal they did. I want a 1st round draft pick for a player of Hopkins caliber.
