The FCC has just given Amazon permission to launch satellites to begin to offer Home Internet service. The company plans to launch 3,000 satellites into low-earth orbit. The FCC has given Amazon a deadline of getting at least 1,600 satellites in orbit by mid-2026.
It will be interesting to see how much people will have to pay for Amazon’s home internet. Starlink has a similar satellite internet service and is cost at least $100+ per month. The speed of the internet will also be interesting to see. The speed of all types of the internet varies, but satellite internet has come a long way. I would not be surprised if Amazon’s home internet offers 80 to 100 Mbps down and 8 to 10 Mbps up.
