Dr. Umar Says His School Is Finally Done

Dr. Umar Johnson is a well-known speaker, psychologist, and activist. For more than 10 years, he has been raising money to open a special school for Black boys.

The school is called the Frederick Douglass Marcus Garvey Academy (FDMG). It is located in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Umar named it after two great Black leaders, Frederick Douglass and Marcus Garvey. He has said the school will teach African history, culture, and pride.

In the past few days, Dr. Umar made a big announcement. He says the school is finally finished!

What He Said

In a video, Dr. Umar told his supporters:

  • The renovations on the old school building are complete.
  • The building is now ready for official city and state inspection.
  • He plans to request the inspection very soon (he mentioned Tuesday, February 17).
  • Once the inspection passes, the school can open its doors to students.

He gave special thanks to everyone who donated money over the years. He also said the school is dedicated to his late cousin, Frederick Douglass.
