Uncle Ben’s Rice has changed its name to Ben’s Original. With the rebrand, Mars Food also removed the image of the grey-haired older black man from its packaging.
Due to the global protests over police brutality and racism, the company decided that this is the time that they needed to rebrand Uncle Ben’s rice. The company was criticized for its marketing with the image of the grey-haired older black man was perpetuating racial stereotypes.
“We understand the inequities that were associated with the name and face of the previous brand, and as we announced in June, we have committed to change” -Mars Food Official statement
