President Trump has threatened to ban TikTok in the past. Now Trump has officially signed an executive order to ban TikTok and WeChat.
Before the executive order, Trump wanted an American company to buy TikTok from ByteDance or he would issue a ban. In the executive order, the widespread use of the app is considered a national emergency.
“This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information potentially allowing China to track the locations of federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage” – Exceutive Order
The TikTok and WeChat ban is slated to go live in 45 days.
