Sony is officially getting out of the pay-TV market. The company has announced via its blog site that they will be shutting down PlayStation Vue Services on January 30, 2020.
With the PlayStation 5 slated to be released in the 2020 holiday season, Sony will shift its focus to its gaming business. Sony basically admitted that the pay-TV market was way too competitive.
“Today we are announcing that we will shut down the PlayStation Vue service on January 30, 2020. Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected. Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.” – Sony Statement
The pay-TV market is still left with Youtube TV, Hulu Live, Sling TV, and more.
