During a candid conversation on the latest episode of his web talk show Big Drive, Nick Cannon labeled the Democratic Party as “the party of the KKK.” The remarks came during a discussion with model and influencer Amber Rose, who has publicly shifted toward supporting Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Cannon stated bluntly: “People don’t know that the Democrats are the party of the KKK. People don’t know that the Republicans are the party that freed the slaves.” He went further, expressing personal affinity for Trump, saying, “I F*** with Trump!!!” while maintaining he identifies as an independent free-thinker rather than a committed partisan.

Despite the provocative line about the KKK, Cannon did not fully endorse the modern Republican Party. He quoted W.E.B. Du Bois, suggesting that the two major parties function like “one evil organization” with different branding, echoing a long tradition of independent Black political thought that distrusts partisan loyalty. His comments appear aimed at challenging what he sees as historical amnesia among some voters, particularly in Black communities where Democratic support has been dominant for generations.
Whether Cannon’s comments represent a meaningful cultural moment or just another viral celebrity hot take remains to be seen. What is clear is his intent: to remind listeners that political parties have complicated, often contradictory histories, and that blind allegiance rarely serves truth-seeking.
As Cannon might put it, in the spirit of free-thinking: question everything, including the narratives both sides push.
