Raul Castro has decided to step down as the president at the age of 86. It is now law that the President of Cuba can only serve two 5-year terms which turns out to be 10 years total.
Prior to becoming the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel was the vice president to Raul Castro. In fact, he was the first vice president of the Republic of Cuba. Miguel Díaz-Canel is faced with some extreme economic issues in Cuba and a lack of opportunities. Some people debate how much power Díaz-Canel will truly have as president. Raul will still be the head honcho of the Communist Party.
