The number one question is Stafford worth this much money? The Detroit Lions are a combined 51-58 since Stafford was their quarterback. They reached the playoffs 3 of the 6 season but lost in the wildcard round all 3 years. He’s thrown for over 4,000 yards each of the last 6 seasons. He has a career completion percentage of over 60%. There are some highs and some lows, but does he deserve to be the highest paid player in the NFL?
Stafford is getting this deal because Detroit does not have many options. No team in the NFL wants to be one of those teams that don’t have a quarterback. With this deal, I feel the Lions organization is saying we have 6 more years to try to get it right and win with their franchise quarterback.
With this deal in place, I think Stafford can put his entire focus on making the Lions offense better knowing he has his money and he will be in Detroit for the next 6 years.
