All-Star infield Manny Machado has agreed to a deal with the San Diego Padres. It was reported it came down to the White Sox, Phillies, and Padres.
The contract is 10-years for $300 million. It was rumored that Machado would be interested in a short-term deal with a team like the Yankees but leaned towards going with the highest bidder in a long-term deal.
Manny played shortstop and third base in the 2018 season, but he prefers to play at shortstop.
Even with Manny Machado, I don’t see the Padres being contenders this season. They are not better than the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, or Rockies and they are in their division.
