Apple Acquires Music App Shazam

With 2017 coming to a close, Apple is not done making headlines. Apple announced on December 11, 2017, that they are acquiring music discovery app Shazam.
No official detail has been released, but it is rumored that the app cost Apple an estimated $400 million.

“We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple. Since the launch of the App Store, Shazam has consistently ranked as one of the most popular apps for iOS, We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today’s agreement.” – Statement From Apple

Apple has always prioritized music since the release of the first iPod. They also acquired Beats and launched their own music streaming service called Apple Music. I do believe buying Shazam is more about competing with Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Google Home device.
Whatever plans Apple has with the Shazam app expect it to be featured on their Homepod device.
