The smartphone manufacturer has plans to layoff an estimated 1,500 employees as part of their restructuring plans.
These HTC layoffs will take place throughout the 2018 summer and plans to be complete by September. Restructuring is not the only reason for these layoffs, HTC is also planning to automate a lot of their manufacturing. Smart manufacturing requires fewer employees to get the same workload done.

HTC also plans to shift a lot of their focus to virtual reality. In fact, they have merged their smartphone and VR teams. This also played a part in HTC downsizing plans. Overall HTC plans to layoff about 23% of their current workforce.
