It has been reported that a Babe Ruth rookie card has been sold for an estimated $7.2 million. The card is known as a 1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth rookie card. According to Brian Dwyer, the card is 1 of only 10.

Overall, the card was pretty well preserved; the fact that it was in the hands of the museum for the last twenty-plus years helped keep it in the condition that it’s in, it’s one of only ten that we know to exist.”- Brian Dwyer, president of Robert Edward Auctions

Where did the card come from?

In 1914, a 16-year-old Baltimore paperboy named Archibald Davis collected baseball cards of his favorite Orioles distributed in daily papers. He was fond of one depicting a 19-year-old pitcher born on Emory St. named Ruth. This is that card.

Archibald cards would be passed down in the family for generations before they knew what they had for 107 years. The family loaned the cards to the Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum in Baltimore in 1998. They were on display until 2021 when they were sold privately.

This is it’s the most expensive Babe Ruth memorabilia of all time
