The United States government has plans to sign a peace deal with the Taliban on February 29, 2020. The Taliban have also confirmed that they plan to sign peace with the United States.

“Following lengthy negotiations between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the United States of America, both parties agreed to sign the finalized accord in the presence of international observers,” – Taliban Official Statment.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo believes the peace agreement can represent a chance for peace in Afghanistan for the first time since 2001.

Before the peace deal takes place, there will be a 7-day reduction of violence in Afghanistan from the Taliban.
