NFL Black Monday 2019

By Samad Robinson

December 31, 2018

The notorious black Monday is here once again. Black Monday is the Monday after the NFL’s week 17 that is known to see a wave of coaches getting fired. It’s time to take a look at which coaches are getting the boot.

Todd Bowles

Todd Bowles had no success as the New York Jets head coach after his first season where he went 10-6 but missed the playoffs. Many people wanted the Jets to fire Todd during the season, but I am happy they did not. Bowles had an awful record of 24-40 during his tenure with the New York Jets.

Bowles may get another head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals if things pan out.

Marvin Lewis

After 16 years the Cincinnati Bengals finally relieve Marvin Lewis of his head coaching duties. I don’t know how many other coaches would have had the opportunity to go 0-7 in the playoffs.

The funny thing is Marvin Lewis deserves another head coaching job. I look at Lewis as one one of the best coaches in the league, he just couldn’t get it done with the Bengals. A fresh start should work in his favor.

Steve Wilks

I would have liked to see Steve Wilks get more than just 1 season as the head coach. The Cardinals probably has the worst roster in the NFC West and would not compete on a high level this year. Steve Wilks may never get another chance at being a head coach in the NFL due to the short lease giving to him by the Cardinals.

Adam Gase

I am of the belief that Ryan Tannehill is more of the problem then Adam Gase is. But it looks like Adam Gase is going to be the scapegoat for this one. The Miami Dolphins will be looking for their 4th head coach in less than 10 years of time.

Dirk Koetter

After what looked like a promising start to the 2018 season with Ryan Fitzpatrick. It quickly fizzled out and Koetter and Bucs finished the 2018 season with a 5-11 record. Dirk had a record of 19-29 as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Vance Joseph

After 2 seasons as the Broncos head coach John Elway has decided to move on. Joseph had a combined record of 11-21 including in that was an 8 game losing streak during the 2018 season.

Elway is likely to go out and try to bring in a high profile coach to the Denver Broncos.
