West Contra County Unified School District’s Board of Education has voted to change El Cerrito’s Wilson Elementary School to Michelle Obama

“The parents and students advocated to rename their school after Michelle Obama because they believe the values our former first lady embodies and the educational, child-centered causes she champions, are representative of what we all aspire to nurture in our school communities,” – Stephanie Hernandez-Jarvis, president of the school board

The school grade runs from kindergarten to 6th grade and has over 400 students. The necessary construction and the official school name change will be complete for the 2020-2021 school year.
